It is said that Taiwan’s Formosa Plastic Corp (FPC) has shut down its 340,000 tonne/year polyvinyl chloride (PVC) plant at Ningbo in eastern China late on Tuesday, timing its maintenance turnaround during the Chinese new year holiday week. "That is just a regular shutdown due to the holiday because the inventory will be at a high level after the lunar new year if we continue production during the holiday," and the plant's maintenance would last about two weeks to early February. The Chinese lunar new year holidays will last from 25 to 31 January in China. Meanwhile, FPC's sister company Formosa Chemicals & Fibre Corporation (FCFC) has decided to reduce the operating rates at its 300,000tonne/year acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS) and 200,000tonne/year polystyrene (PS) plants in Ningbo to 40-50% during the lunar new year holidays.
