PetroRabigh( a joint venture of Saudi Aramco and Sumitomo Chemical)will begin shipping monoethylene glycol (MEG) out of its new 600,000 tonne/year plant located at the Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia in end-March. The facility will commence commercial operations at the end of this month as planned. The material could be shipped to various markets in Europe, south Asia and China. The start-up of the MEG plant had been delayed from October 2008 to February this year with industry sources attributing the delay to a slide in Asian market prices.
