Sumitomo Chemical Singapore plans to restart its MMA line no 1 and PMMA line 1 located at Jurong Island around 21 August after a 20 day shutdown. The MMA line 1 with a capacity of 53,000 tonnes/year and the 50,000 tonne/year PMMA line 1 were shut on 3 August for annual maintenance shutdown, the source said. Sumitomo had restarted its PMMA line 2 of capacity 50,000 tonne/year in end-May this year after shutting it late last year amid slow regional demand. This line was now operating well. Sumitomo Chemical operates three methyl methacrylate (MMA) lines with a total capacity of 220,000 tonnes/year at the same site in Singapore. Of the three, the 80,000 tonne/year line no 2 was yet to restart following a shutdown in April 2008 due to technical problems.
