(ICIS news)--Chinese phenol-acetone producer Gaoqiao Petrochemical has delayed the restart of its 60,000 tonne/year No 1 phenol-acetone unit at Pudong, Shanghai indefinitely due to prevailing weak market conditions, a source close to the company said on Wednesday. The unit had been taken off line in early August and was originally scheduled to restart in early September. The company had also postponed the restart of its 60,000 tonne/year No 2 unit, located at the same site, from mid-September to October, the source said. The unit was undergoing debottlenecking to increase its capacity to 100,000 tonnes/year, according to an earlier ICIS News report. "The delay is unlikely to have major impact on the market given persistent weak demand and healthy inventories," a trader from eastern China said in Mandarin, The firm also operates a phenol-acetone plant at Caojing, Shanghai. The unit produces 120,000 tonnes/year of phenol and 80,000 tonnes/year of acetone and was operating at full rates, the source close to the company said.
