The world’s economic crisis makes the China's real estate industry suffered a lot. The exports of boards and the lower demand has kept the construction industry in a state of “supply>demand”. The enterprises have suffered the pain of lower profits because of the rising prices of methanol in the first half of 2008 and the continued slump in the second half made the formaldehyde price dropped a lot. In the process of sharp fall of raw materials, formaldehyde companies were unable to produce stably. “stop production”, “high inventory” have been a common word since the second half of 2008. In 2008, China's formaldehyde growth rate is close to 10%, but the production has experienced a negative growth. It is estimated that in 2008, China’s production of formaldehyde descends 6% (lower than 8,100,000 tons) compared with that of 2007. And its imports are extremely limited. From the apparent demand, the shrinkage is about 6-7%. In China, formaldehyde has always been the mainstay of the demand for methanol, accounting for 40% of the total demand of methanol. The formaldehyde for board occupies 70%. However, as China's policy leans to construction and the reconstruction of Sichuan in the next five years, some optimistic people expect that its shrinking will be slow down.
