Medco Bunyu Methanol had shut its 330,000 tonne/year facility in Bunyu, Indonesia this week due to a shortage of feedstock natural gas. It is said that the plant will resume production when an alternative source of natural gas supply is found. Prior to the shutdown, the Bunyu plant had been running at low rates of 30-40% since the second half of 2008 given limited supply of gas. Gas shortage had been a recurring problem at the plant since 2005.
