Vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) for July-arrival has been sold at $40-50/tonne (€29-36/tonne) higher than levels achieved in the previous months, traders and producers said on Friday. July-arrival cargoes were sold at around $700-710/tonne CFR (cost and freight) northeast (NE) Asia, compared to May’s levels of $660/tonne CFR NE Asia. The price increase was mainly cost-driven as most downstream carbide-based polyvinyl chloride (PVC) producers in China were now relying more on competitively-priced domestic feedstock than imported VCM, traders and producers said.
