According to ICIS,BASF plans to sell its Clear Lake surfactants plant in Texas to a subsidiary of Gulf Bayport Chemicals.BASF said it expected to complete the sale by 31 December.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The divestiture was being made "to realign our business to ensure long term profitable growth" said Simon Medley.
The divestiture includes the sale of the site and manufacturing equipment, but does not include the products made at the site.
BASF reached a toll-manufacturing agreement with Clear Lake Chemicals to produce specialty surfactants at the site to enable BASF to continue to supply its customers with products from the same manufacturing location.
BASF would transfer 15 employees to Clear Lake Chemicals.
